Lake Skadar Wine Tasting And Gastronomy Tours

Experiencing a Lake Skadar wine tasting or gastronomy tour is a really unique and special treat when visiting Montenegro.

This is the place where you can experience some of the delicious, home-style cooking that evokes the warmth of a mother's love.

In Montenegro, food is love.

When I see a Montenegrin man in summer with his t-shirt proudly rucked up over a generous stomach (this is a local habit you'll see if you visit any time it's hot), I think to myself 'his mother really loves him!'

But I digress...

The Lake Skadar region has some of the most naturally fertile soil in Europe. Organic produce is grown in abundance in the surrounding valleys and the area is also home to Montenegrin wine country and its signature Vranac grape.

Montenegro wineLake Skadar boasts some of the most fertile vineyards in the Balkans

The wine producers in this region are award-winning and nearby you'll find Europe's single largest vineyard, belonging to Plantaze, Montenegro's largest wine producer. Even more impressive is the fact that you can pick up a bottle of excellent Vranac here for as little as €5.

It's little wonder Virpazar, the gateway town to Lake Skadar, is home to a yearly festival dedicated to local wine and bleak, a lake fish. Local wine producers come here to showcase their wines and it's an excellent opportunity to try some. You can find out current details about the festival on their Facebook page.

If you think you can try the best of Montenegrin cuisine in the restaurants, unfortunately you'd be wrong.

Sure, there are some excellent restaurants and I have to be careful to keep my love of pljeskavica with kajmak (a Balkan meat pattie and cream cheese) in check.

But to experience real, unpretentious Montenegrin fare, you have to visit the families.

How can you do that during your stay in Montenegro?

Easy! I've arranged some Lake Skadar wine tasting tours that will allow you to try the very best of Montenegrin wine and cuisine.
