One of the best ways to experience a new culture is through its traditions. And wine, along with olive oil, are as traditional as it gets in Montenegro.

This tour takes you off the beaten tourist track to a boutique winery in Herceg Novi, at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor.

The tour starts with a walking tour though the historic old town of Kotor that includes all the highlights of the old town plus visits to:

  • St. Tryphon's Cathedral - 1166. The cathedral was built on the remains of a former temple from the 9th century. Inside, you'll see the remains of 14th Century frescoes and valuable artefacts made of gold from both local and Venetian artists dating from the 14th century
  • Kotor Maritime Museum, in former Grgurina Palace. The museum has a unique collection representing maritime history of the Bay of Kotor. The collection includes many historical artefacts, traditional dress, weapons and furniture

Along the way you’ll stop in Perast for a guided tour of the beautiful baroque town and a visit to Our Lady of the Rocks island church.

Then you continue along one of the most scenic roads in Montenegro around the bay to Herceg Novi. Above Savina Monastery, which dates to 1030, you’ll visit Savina Winery. There, you can try three of their wines with traditional home-made snacks, their olive oil and their rakija (brandy). The ambiance and views in Savina are spectacular and it’s the perfect place to enjoy some traditional cuisine.

After the food and wine tasting you take the short drive to Herceg Novi, where you have a walking tour of the town.

Then you relax and enjoy the views of the bay’s hamlets as you cruise back to Kotor in a speed boat.
