Hi!

I am planning our trip to Montenegro. I'm coming on Dec 31 with my daughter who's 16.
We are from Latvia. We bought tickets to Montenegro spontaneously and are excited now about our travel to this beautiful country.

I have the questions concerning the New Year period:

- in which city/town/place is it better to celebrate New Year's Eve ? We are arriving early in the morning in Podgorica on Dec 31.
- do people celebrate New Years in Montenegro?
- what would be the must-see places to visit in this period? We plan to stay from 31 December till approx 8 January.

Thank you
Christina

New Years in Montenegro
by: Sarah

Hi Christina,

Your trip sounds very exciting... spontaneous trips are often the best!

To answer your questions, we definitely celebrate New Year's Eve in Montenegro. In fact, I wrote an article about how best to celebrate here, which you can find here: https://theculturetrip.com/europe/montenegro/articles/how-to-celebrate-new-years-eve-in-montenegro/.

I think Tivat is one of the best places to stay in at this time of year and celebrate New Years. Budva would also be a good choice, especially if you choose one of the nice hotels there with indoor pools and jacuzzis.

You should plan to stay on the coast. The inland is very snowy now and although the roads are mostly clear, they can close at any time so it's best to stay on the coast and plan to go inland if the weather allows.

Here are some must-sees:

- Kotor old town, Bay of Kotor
- Porto Montenegro, Tivat
- Sveti Stefan, Budva Riviera
- Budva old town
- Skadar Lake
- Perast
- Our Lady of the Rocks

Happy travels,
Sarah
