Disabled Parking

by Kath M
(UK)

Hi Sarah,

I am going to Kotor for a week in late March with my husband who is registered blind. I have looked at car parking and it will be expensive for a week. Are there any places around the North side of the old town that have free on street parking or free disabled parking (We have a blue EU disabled badge). I am happy to drop him off and walk back to him so it doesn't need to be the centre of town.

Alternatively, is it possible to buy a weekly parking ticket that is cheaper than the hourly rate?

Can I also ask if you know anywhere where I can hire small dinghy for my teenagers. They are very competent sailors and have UK qualifications. I am looking for one and two man boats but can only find information on much larger boats.

Thank you,

Kath

Hi Julia,

Montenegro doesn't have disabled parking signs for your car the way other countries do.

There are disabled parking spaces in many locations and you can display your card from Sweden if you wish.

Happy travels,
Sarah

Hello my brother is in a wheelchair and my question is if he’s parking placard from Sweden will work in Montenegro? I’ve tried a lot of different sites but I couldn’t find anything helpful so it would be really great if someone could answer or possibly give a bit of information?

Thanks in advance to everyone :))

Hi Kath,

No problem. Personally, I think it's a shame not to hire a car when you visit Montenegro, because you'll be able to see so much more during your stay.

As long as you don't mind a wee walk, you should be able to find free street parking in Kotor. And if you're really stuck, you can park in the paid lots a couple of times.

Happy travels,
Sarah

Thanks Sarah, that's really useful. I've tried the official tourist agency and the town council and never received a reply. I also tried trip advisor and all the responses were along the lines of don't hire a car. Perhaps they don't realise that public transport is very difficult to manage when you have a disability.

Hi Kath,

Kotor has three paid parking lots, which charge 80c per hour. There is some free parking along the Skurda River on the north side of town, however it's in demand with local residents as well as visitors. You can also look for parking along the seaside just out of town and along the seaside towards Muo. You'll only find disabled parking spots in the paid parking lots. I'm not aware of any weekly tarriffs currently available at the parking lots, but it would pay to ask when you arrive.

Regarding the boat for your kids. You can enquiry here on my RYA Powerboat Licence.
